KDE 3.1 on gentoo?

I used 'emerge world' to pull all the KDE 3.1 stuff (all day) yesterday.  
Everything pulled down and compiled just fine, which you'd think would be the 
main place for errors to happen.

I logged out and prepared to login again using 3.1, but the kdm chooser only 
had versions 3.0.3, 3.0.4 and 3.0.5a available.  These were set up by emerge 
when it pulled and compiled those versions of KDE, but this time it didn't 
add an option for 3.1.

I've been searching for the config file I'd need to tweak to add 3.1 in 
myself, but so far no joy.  Has anyone out there got a pointer?
