You can tell I'm new to X!  I'm running RH8 with the default gnome 
manager, so what I wanted is actually in:
Hat --> Preferences --> Mouse
Somehow, with all I've been doing to get low-level driver stuff working 
(under system settings), I totally spaced the fact that there's a 
preferences section.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
