Gentoo question

[Kurt]

im installing gentoo on an older system. everything
thus far has gone great. however, i am now at the
point to write lilo to the mbr. i edited lilo.conf no
problem, but when entering:
/sbin/lilo
i get this error:
Fatal: creat /boot/map~: Read-only file system

wtf? anyone have any ideas? im at the end of my rope
here.
