SDL_config

I tried to install a game and got this when I tried to configure it.
The sdl-config script installed be SDL could not be found
If SDL was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in 
your path, or set the SDL_CONFIG enviroment variable to the 
full path to sdl_config.
configure: error: lib SDL is needed

I'm using mandrake 8.1, did it not come with this SDL, im new so I dont even 
know what SDL is nor do I understand what that error told me to do.
I need help please please please please please please please.
