Subject: Connecting Linux X386 server to a remote xdm ???
Date: Thu, 11 Feb 1993 13:18:02 GMT

I want to connect my Linux X386 server to a xdm (actually HP/UX's vuelogin) on
our workstation (a HP9k720). So far I am out of luck.

Starting X on the linux PC via startx works. I get X up and running, I can also
start remote X clients. Other networking (TCP/NFS) seems also o.k.

When I try to start the X-server via the command line:

/usr/bin/X11/X -query <workstation name or address>

(This command works fine on another HP to connect to this one).

The server starts into graphics mode, goes back to text again and gives me
the message:

XDMCP fatal error: Session declined No valid address

and exits.
The setup on the WS seems to be ok, when I'm running DOS I can connect to the HP
using eXceed/W fine (using same IP address and hostname, of course).

I can also set up the xdm to call the X-server directly (Xservers file entry),
but I don't want to do so because of the timeouts etc. when the server is not
running.

The goal of all this is that I want to set up some cheap PC's as X-terminals
to the HP, and the Linux X-server is free and much faster than eXceed.

Any ideas ?
