Isn't there some fellow in Europe who *has* a DOS emulator up and
running (in v86 mode) now? I think he mentioned that he wants to get
some more bugs out of it before making it available.
Linus is all for having v86 mode hooks in the Linux kernel so someone
*else* can write a DOS emulator if that's what makes them happy. Linus just
wants it done a certain way that meets with his approval. I *think* the
guy who has a DOS emulator up did it in a way semi-agreeable to Linus (i.e.
he made the hooks for entering and exiting v86 mode that didn't kluge
the memory management).
Linus mentioned to me that if he gets into a good hacking-mode funk,
he may just whip out the v86 mode hooks himself. Then again, Linus
just wanted to learn more about 386 task switching and look what came
of it. ;-)
P.S. No I don't know the e-mail address of the person in Europe who is
working on the DOS emulator.
