Subject: latest GCC, emacs? Installation recommendation

I thought I remember a GCC 2.12 on banjo, but now all I see is 2.11.
Why? I thought I heard wind of a newer version in the wind, true?

Is the emacs in the mit mirror the 'new' one? Or was it deemed not to
be an improvement?

I decided to do some disk re-partitioning & tried the root & boot
disks from Linus's directory on banjo. While it's a good way to check
that it works on your machine, the MCC-interim release is a *much*
faster way to a working system from scratch. The MCC has a better
fdisk, vi & mtools, for instance.
