| Hi! Currently, I've got a 486-33 w/ 8 megs of memory running OS/2, but I'm

| I'm wondering how hard it is to install for someone who is totally
| clueless. :^) I already have a full 130 meg hard drive, but I'm going to be
| getting a 170 that I'd like to partition between OS/2 data partitions and
| Linux. Questions I was wondering if I could get answered:
|
| 1) If I'd like to run Linux w/ X11R5 and maybe something like emacs and gcc,
| how much space should I leave for it?

I would suggest 40-60MB, depending on your urge to recompile the
kernel and X11 stuff. X11 is /big/, kerner source is reasonable.

| 2) Is it possible to install Linux on a 2nd hard disk? (The docs seem to
| say it is, but they are unclear, and I'd prefer to get as much info as
| possible before installing.)

It is possible to put a minimal linux boot partition on the first hard
disk, and have the /etc/rc file mount a stuff in a partition(s) on the
2nd. It is "not impossible" to boot from the 2nd drive, but the
explanations have been complex and several haven't worked for me.

| 3) Is it possible to use OS/2's boot manager with Linux? (ie, have it ready
| to boot on a primary partition, but not the active one, so I can select it
| via a menu at boot up time.)

I'm told by someone who runs both that you can boot OS/2 from
shoelace. More than that I can't say.

I admit that when I was in school I wrote COBOL. But I didn't compile.
