Gnome configuration question

OK, so I have a desktop and a laptop that are both running 64-bit Fedora 14. The desktop has three screens and is using Xinerama, the laptop only has one... I would really like to copy my gnome configurations from the desktop to the laptop - allowing me to (hopefully) have a seamless experience between the two machines. If possible, I would even like to copy the packages (and their configs) from one machine to another and then set up some way to sync them during the day... I'm not looking to make a major project out of doing this, just wanting to know if either part is feasible and if there are any (relatively) simple ways of going about it w/out totally borking one machine or the other. Sound Recording Issue in Fedora 14 with MythTV 0.24

I have been experiencing a sound issue in F14 with MythTV 0.24. The sound is similar to something out of an old radio (non-stereo). This issue did not exist in F12 with 0.23. I have attached a 9MB clip for those that care to offer suggestions and opinions (all are welcome). http://pjcrux.amahi.me/Public/The%20Ten%20Commandments-1.mpg I have checked the settings in alsamixer as well as the settings in MythTV and everything appears correct. Is there somewhere else I could be looking or haven't thought to look? This machine is the backend for all of my frontends in the house. My HW setup is as follows: Fedora 14 DVD x86_64 MythTV 0.24 (via RPMFusion) AMD Phenom x3 2.3GHz 8GB DDR2-800 Asus M3N78-Pro WD 160GB (for OS) Seagate 1.5TB (for videos) Samsung 1TB (For files) PVR-500 Hauppauge Looking for any kind of help. TV Tuners on GNU/Linux

I'm wanting to put a TV Tuner in my desktop at home. Initially, I'd like to be able to watch and record shows over TWC from my desktop, but maybe long term have some kind of media center rig that I could use to serve media out to other devices in the house. Anyway, I'm having some analysis paralysis going over MythTV FAQs and the like. Was wondering if anyone had recommendations or experience with a well-supported TV Tuner card on the more popular GNU/Linux distros? Can I pretty much pick from any of the newer Hauppauge hardware? I understand that to decode most HDTV I'd probably need a cable receiver feeding into the tuner. That's not a huge deal, but would obviously be better without it. I'd like to be able to watch and record at the same time (I think), so I'd either need two cards or a dual tuner, right? Any general pointers? I found some KCLUG discussions from a few years back, but thought it might be worth asking again to get some more current information. Thanks, Joe

I dont find that the adjustment to 16x9 is such a big deal, it does change the size of my windows and I have to have them a bit higher up though. I am planning on buying three 16x9 screens in the near future but I plan on using two of them in portrait mode on each side of the middle one in landscape mode. We're having some trouble getting a MacBook Pro and a Palm Pre connected to a mailserver. We're using plain-text password authenticatioport with ssl on port 993, and both systems complain of an ssl error. I've installed the certificate on each device and told it to trust it. Has anybody had problems like this with Mac Mail or Palm devices? How did you solve it? Does anybody know what the limitations on what kind of imap configuration will work with these?

Buying a New Laptop

I'm buying a new laptop really soon. What do the members of KCLUG recommend for a Linux only laptop. Pre-installed or no OS is fine with me, I just don't want to pay for something I'm never going to use. I'm willing to spend in the neighborhood of a grand, give or take a few hundred. So, I want a fairly nice machine, light weight for travel, but durable and reliable. And, it goes without saying, Linux friendly. You guys are super resourceful, so I wanted to tap into the vast knowledge base on this list. Thanks in advance for your input. Jim Herrmann
